Assam CM observes Me Dam Me Phi
Assam, January 31: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday attended the Central Me-Dam-Me-Phi observance at Sadiya in Tinsukia district. The central Me-Dam-Me-Phi programme was organised by Assam government’s directorate of cultural affairs in association with Tinsukia district administration. The meeting was also attended by State Minister Naba Kumar Doley.
Me-Dam-Me-Phi is celebrated by the Tai Ahom community on January 31 every year to pay tributes to their ancestors.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister urged everyone to take inspiration from Swargadeo Chaolung Sukapha’s ideals and work towards taking Assam to new heights.
He also presented awards to the winners of Swadesh Adhyayan Quiz organised by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) and unveiled a souvenir.On the other hand, health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the Me-Dam-Me-Phi celebrations organised by All Tai Ahom Students’ Union at Nimaijan in Sivasagar district.
