India, January 30 : Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai were booked in an FIR filed under charges of sedition, prompting enmity and other sections of IPC. Along with them, senior journalists Mrinal Pande, Zafar Agha, Paresh Nath, Anant Nath, Vinod K Jose and others have also been booked for sedition.A FIR was filed against them at a police station in Noida on the basis of a complaint filed by a resident of the cit
y, identified by police as Arpit Mishra who alleged “digital broadcasts” and “social media posts” by Tharoor and the journalists, who claimed that a farmer had been shot dead by the Delhi Police, contributed to the siege of the Red Fort and violence during the tractor rally.
“They have deliberately broadcast malicious, insulting, misleading news and tweeted via their Twitter handles that police have killed a protester tractor driver,” reads the complaint.
On Tuesday, January 26, the tractor rally during Farmer’s Protest diverted from its path soon descending into lawlessness after the farmers broke through barricades before time and changed the agreed route. The protestor, 24-year-old Navreet Singh, died of injuries sustained when his tractor overturned near ITO in Delhi on Republic Day, according to the autopsy report.
Meanwhile, Rajdeep Sardesai, Consulting Editor of India Today, has been taken off air for a period of 2 weeks and a month’s salary has also been deducted from him.
