Puducherry, February 7:

Puducherry police arrested a man for posting a Facebook message declaring that he is ready to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Rs 5 crore.

The arrested man has been identified as Sathiyanandham of Ariyankuppam, 43.

K Thangadurai, 35, a mason, had lodged a complaint with the Ariyankuppam police after coming across a post on Facebook from the account of ‘Sathiya Sathiya’ announcing ‘ready to kill Modi, who is ready to offer Rs 5 crore’.

The mason said the post would elicit enmity between different classes of people and requested the police to take action against the man who posted the message.

Police traced Sathiyanandham and booked him under sections 5-5 (i) (statements conducing to public mischief) and 505 (ii) (statements creating enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested him.

He was confined to judicial custody.
